Credentials
Julie holds a Master of Divinity degree from
Princeton Theological Seminary, and a Bachelor's degree in Youth Ministry and Sociology from
Eastern University. She is a licensed minister of
Mennonite Church USA through
Franconia Mennonite Conference.
Experience
Julie's professional experience spans religious and non-religious vocations. Currently, she is a chaplain with
Crossroads Hospice of Philadelphia, and until recently, was a member of the on-call chaplain team at the
Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, where she served children and their families, providing spiritual support for them in times of crisis. She was the Acting Director for the
CHORDS Program at the University of Pennsylvania (then the Program in Universities, Communities of Faith, Schools, and Neighborhood Organizations),and led the student organization Seminarians Organized Against Rape (SOAR) at Princeton Theological Seminary. She also spent part of her career as a case worker in the child welfare system, and as a support group leader for children who were recently adopted. This variety of professional experiences provides Julie with a background in public service and interfaith work that enables her to connect with people from diverse backgrounds and life situations.
Connections
Julie maintains relationships with national organizations such as
Darkness to Light,
FaithTrust Institute,
the American Professional Society on the Abuse of Children, and the
Association of Youth Ministry Educators as well as with organizations in the Philadelphia region committed to the well-being of children.
Passion
A survivor of sexual abuse herself,
Julie knows the dynamics of victimization and the journey of healing
first-hand. She possesses an ability to be direct, honest, and
empathetic about the sensitive topics surrounding sexuality in general
and child sexual abuse in specific. Participants in her trainings find
her conversational style engaging, making it possible for participants
to overcome their discomfort to discuss these important topics openly
and helpfully.
