Why "One Childhood"?

Each of us is gifted by God with one childhood: just one time through our youth.

Though we can be resilient, the problems we face through those critical years of development are ones that can affect us the rest of our lives.

We work to preserve childhood for as many children as we can...

Many of the troubles and traumas we may encounter as children are accidental, but the sexual abuse of children is a matter of adult responsibility and choice.

Because the price of one childhood per victim is too much to pay -- for individuals, our communities, and society as a whole -- it is critical that adults acquire the knowledge and skills we need to address child sexual abuse as helpfully as we can.

We work for the healing of those whose lives have been affected by child sexual abuse...

Healing can occur that takes our one childhood, no matter what it contains, and allows it to provide us insight and strength for our own good, the good of those we love, and the good of the world.

For this healing to take place, we need environments that support us in our growth toward wholeness.

With education and thoughtful planning, communities of faith can provide these healing spaces -- as small as a religious education class or support group or as large as a congregation -- where people can come to address the wounds of their childhoods, and work together to prevent the sexual abuse of this generation of children.

One Childhood Consulting exists to help adults provide safer spaces for children and healing environments for survivors of child sexual abuse. Contact One Childhood Consulting to begin reducing the incidence and impact of child sexual abuse in your community today.
